Hostel Owner Terms

Effective 31 August 2026 · Applies to the myHostels Android app (com.redwavestech.myhostel)

These are the terms you accept when you choose Hostel Owner in myHostels. They are short on purpose. myHostels is published by RedWaves Technology, Cape Coast, Ghana.

The short version. List only a hostel you own or are authorised to manage. Keep the details true. If you claim a hostel that is not yours, the listing comes down and the account is removed.

1 Who may list

You may create a listing only if you are the owner of the hostel, or a manager, caretaker or agent the owner has authorised to act for it.

Choosing the Hostel Owner role is a claim about yourself. We cannot check it at that moment — there is not even an account yet — so we ask you to make it deliberately. Students browsing the app should use the Student role instead; nothing in the owner area is useful to them, and claiming a hostel to see it is a breach of these terms.

2 What must be true

Everything you enter is shown to students deciding where to live and how much to pay, so it must be accurate at the time you enter it:

Prices displayed to students must be the prices you would actually charge them. If something changes, update the listing.

3 Photos and content you upload

Upload photos only of the hostel you are listing, and only photos you took or have permission to use. Do not upload photos of another property, stock images presented as your rooms, or pictures containing identifiable people who have not agreed to appear.

You keep ownership of what you upload. By uploading it you give RedWaves Technology permission to display it inside myHostels, and to show it in the app's own listing and search results, for as long as the listing is live.

4 Checking, and takedown

Listings are checked. A submitted listing is reviewed before it is published, and a published listing can be reviewed again at any time — for example after a student reports it.

We remove a listing, and may remove the account behind it, where:

Where two people claim the same hostel, both listings can be held unpublished until it is settled. We may ask for evidence of ownership or authorisation, and may decline a listing where we do not receive it.

If a listing turns out to impersonate a hostel or to solicit payment for a room that does not exist, removing it is not always the end of it. In that situation we may pass the account details and any evidence you gave us to the person who actually owns or manages the property, to the institution or regulator responsible, and to law enforcement. We share only what that particular investigation needs, and we never pass on the contact details of students who enquired about the listing.

5 Students who contact you

A listing carries a contact route so students can reach you about a room. Use it for that. Contact details students provide are not a marketing list, and must not be passed to anyone else or used for anything unrelated to their enquiry.

6 What myHostels does and does not do

myHostels helps students find hostels. It is not a party to any tenancy agreement, does not take rent or deposits, and does not act as an agent for you or for a student.

Any agreement about a room is between you and the student. Rent, deposits, receipts and the tenancy itself remain your responsibility, and remain subject to Ghanaian law — including the Rent Act, 1963 (Act 220) and the requirements of the Rent Control Department.

We publish what you give us. We check listings, but a check is not a guarantee, and we do not warrant the accuracy of a listing's details to students.

7 Ending it

You can ask us to unpublish your listing at any time, and you can delete your account from inside the app — see Delete your account for exactly what that removes and when.

We may suspend or end access where these terms are breached. Where the breach is a mistake we will normally ask you to fix it first; where it is a false ownership claim we will not.

8 Changes to these terms

If these terms change materially we will say so in the app before you next submit or update a listing. The effective date at the top of this page always tells you which version is current.

9 Your data

What we collect and how long we keep it is set out in the Privacy Policy, which applies to owners as well as students.
